1. Stanley Park Seawall
The 10 km loop around Stanley Park is one of the world's great urban walks — ocean on one side, ancient forest on the other. Rent a bike or walk it. Stop at Third Beach for sunset views toward Vancouver Island.
2. Granville Island Public Market
Free to browse and there's always live buskers and street performers. Sample artisan cheeses, watch glassblowers, and catch the free mini-ferry views from the dock. Weekday mornings are blissfully uncrowded.
3. Kitsilano Beach & Pool
Kits Beach is free year-round. The ocean-side pool (Canada's longest) is nominally paid but the beach itself has volleyball courts, walking paths, and mountain views that belong on a postcard.
4. Grouse Grind
Vancouver's "Nature's Stairmaster" — 2,830 stairs up Grouse Mountain. Free to hike up (you pay to gondola down, or hike the BCMC trail back for free). The summit views on a clear day span from the San Juan Islands to Mount Baker.
5. Richmond Night Market (Window Shopping)
Entry is free on certain nights and the people-watching and food aromas alone are worth the SkyTrain ride. Over 200 vendors and live entertainment.
6. Deep Cove
A 30-minute drive from downtown leads to a postcard village. The Quarry Rock hike is 1.8 km and ends at a viewpoint over Indian Arm. Come early — parking fills by 10 AM on weekends.
7. Chinatown & Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden (Exterior)
North America's oldest Chinatown has incredible murals, dim sum aromas, and the free-to-view exterior of the classical Chinese garden. The Millennium Gate and surrounding streets are a photographer's paradise.
8. English Bay Sunset
The ritual: grab a bench at English Bay, watch the sun drop behind the mountains, and stay for the light show on the cargo ships. Free, nightly, unforgettable.
9. Museum of Anthropology (Free Tuesdays)
UBC's Museum of Anthropology houses world-class First Nations totem poles and carvings. Free admission every Tuesday evening 5–9 PM.
